If you’re watching this video, then you probably suffer a terrible disease and it’s a curse, in fact. It’s the Curse of the Perfectionist.
In this video, I’m going to share with you how you can overcome that curse and cure yourself of this crippling entrepreneurial disease.
Hi, guys. Joshua Van Den Brock here, founder of Video Marketing Done For You. In this video, we’re talking about perfectionism and why it holds us back and why it doesn’t need to be if you don’t want it to be.
When working with my clients, one of the main reasons why people don’t shoot their own videos and publish them to the marketplace is because they don’t feel that the quality of the video is good enough.
They feel that things need to be perfect, always seeking a level that’s higher than what they’re able to create, so they don’t do anything. The reality is it’s just rubbish. It’s just coming up with an excuse for why you’re not actually going to take action. You might need a piece of equipment.
You might need something in order to provide this polished version of you that you want everybody else to see. The reality is, people want to see you. They don’t want to see the polished version, they want to see the authentic you, the genuine you.
Stop beating around the bush and making excuses for yourself by not taking action in getting your videos out there. You see, progress is far better than perfection because eighty percent of something done is better than zero percent of perfection.
If you are trying to get something to be perfect, between you and me, you’ll never get to being perfect. There’s always a higher level you can get to and you can be pushing that bar and pushing that bar and pushing that bar and all you’re going to be doing is creating another barrier and another barrier and another barrier that will stop you from getting started.
Why don’t you pull your finger out? Actually put a date in your calendar where you’re actually going to shoot your videos and go and do it.
Don’t worry about the conditions being perfect, just take action and get something done. Eighty percent done is far better than nothing done. My advice to you and the same advice to all of my clients is that progress is far better than perfection.
Take the action and get it out there. It’s like going to the doctor. When you go in and stand on the scales and they say, “This is what your weight is. You need to lose weight.” Great, yeah. We all need to lose weight, but that is what your baseline data is and it’s the same here.
This is your baseline data. The first video that you put out there is never going to be your best quality work. It’s always going to be your worst.
What you do is you put it out there and you do it over and over and over and over and you practice and you get better. It’s as simple as that. You don’t need to be worrying about putting out this higher level, highly polished, really production value video for someone who’s watching you online.
People want to know you, they want to know how genuine you are and they want to be able to see that what they see on camera is what they will see in person if they were ever to meet you. Pull your finger out, take action, get those videos out there.
At least start shooting and practicing them if you don’t want to publish them because progress is far better than perfection.
